IPVanish Installation Guide iOS -

You can find the latest IPVanish iOS app from their Setup page. To get there, just click on the "Apps" at the top of their site. This will open the VPN software page. Click the button to start iOS. This will load the iOS Configuration sub-page that contains information about the latest iOS app and a link to the App Store. This page also contains the manual setup, step by step visual guides to configure your iOS device with L2TP and PPTP.

To download the application, click on the "Download on the App Store." Once in iTunes, click the download button to begin the installation of the application. IPVanish The application is compatible with iOS 8.0 and above. Once the installation starts, you will see a screen like that shown below left. This is the warning iOS say that all Internet traffic goes through the VPN. It is similar to the trust of warning issued by Android devices. You need this for VPN installation to continue. The left image shows a different installation you are asked if you want to receive notifications and alerts IPVanish. This is optional.

After the above notification the application will you enter your username and password to log in IPVanish service. Assuming you have entered the username and password for your account IPVanish and connected, the application will ask you to create a VPN profile. This configuration will IPVanish the IKEv2 configuration for your iOS device. After this profile has been installed, you will see the IPVanish home screen like the one below left. This is the main screen of the application of its connection in a disconnected state. It shows disconnected in the connection and the switch is a white solid that indicates that it is in its disconnected state. The IP address and visible location are shown your real IP address and location. This screen also displays the status of your account and when it is due for renewal.

Tapping the screen along the line below the connection status that indicates the location (Atlanta, USA) in the image below above, will slide the server locations of the list on the right. This is shown in the screenshot of the above medium. Tapping on a server in the list select it and you return to the main login screen. Tapping the rocker switch to connect to your chosen server. The last screen above shows the connection to a server Atlanta, USA. Note that the connection status now shows connected and the slide switch is now green. Also the IP address displayed is the one assigned by the VPN server and shows a visible place in Atlanta, USA. You are now connected and all your Internet traffic is encrypted against spying outside. Disconnect is as simple as touching the slide switch. To change the servers, simply select another server and repeat the process.

The latest screens we want to look for IPVanish iOS app are setting screens that can be accessed by clicking the "hamburger" or menu icon (three horizontal lines) on the top left of main screen. The display of the main parameters is shown on the left in the image below. It is divided into three sections: General, Advanced and subscription. The General section lets you evaluate IPVanish just by tapping the right facing arrow and shows the current version of the application. The advanced section which on demand options which we will discuss later. It lets you select the VPN protocol, and reinstall the VPN profile if it has been damaged which happens sometimes with VPN profiles. The default protocol for the iOS app is IKEv2 but you can change it for IPSec.

IKEv2 is not only the default protocol, but also best suited for mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad because support is built and it is generally considered faster, secure and reliable the OpenVPN protocol. As its design makes it suitible to automatically reconnect and re-establish a VPN connection when the connection is temporarily lost as sometimes happens during a trip. The IKEv2 protocol supports mobility and Multihoming (MOBIKE) protocols making it ideal for mobile users who spend regularly between hot spots or those who fall through the Wi-Fi home networks and mobile data use when outdoors.

The last section of the main screen settings parameters displays subscription information as when your account renews. It also allows you to restore obsolete purchases. Finally, you can disconnect from the VPN service from here.

We took a look at all the settings except for those found under the screen of the application which can be accessed by pressing the right facing arrow right thereof. This screen appears to the right in the picture above. It contains options for the VPN connection. These options are:

  • Still
    • Enabling this option will try to always stay connected to the network IPVanish VPN
  • connect automatically include SSID
    • this activation option ensures that you will always try to connect to the VPN to the SSID displayed.
    • This slightly built in SSIDs like Panera, attwif, Google Starbucks, and others.
    • You can also add your own SSID as your home network or others.
  • automatic connection to these websites
    • Enabling this option ensures that you will always try to connect to the VPN for listed websites.
    • it has a built in sites like twitter .com, facebook.com, youtube.com, and others.
    • You can also add your own sites to the list.

These options provide a rudimentary facto kill switch for the iOS app or selected SSID and websites.

As you can see, the IPVanish iOS app will allow you to easily connect to VPN servers in the network with just a few taps of your iOS device screen. It includes facto kill switch that allows you to selectively choose which SSID and the websites you want to automatically connect to the VPN service. Finally, the default IKEv2, one of the best VPN protocols for mobile devices like the iPhone and the iPad because of its support for MOBIKE.
