Officially known as the Marathon name TCS New York marathon is a road race that is run through the five New York boroughs. As one of six majors, this race is the world's largest marathon with over 50k competitors from over 170 countries. This year the race will take place on 1 November 2015 and will begin at 9:00 am EST. If you live in the tri-state area around New York, you can watch the race on the local ABC affiliate . Those elsewhere in the United States with a subscription to cable or satellite can also look online to abc.go.com. Unlike the Chicago marathon, the New York version is relatively young. Held at the beginning of the craze running in 1970, the first New York marathon consisted of several loops around central park and only had 127 competitors and 100 spectators only. In 1976, with the race becoming bigger and bigger, one over the 5 boroughs was proposed in honor of the bicentennial.
The redesign of the course was supposed to be a one time event, but it was such a huge success, the course correction returned the following year, and has not been changed since. In its current form began in Staten Island, and continues to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Manhattan and back, finishing outside Tavern on the Green. Although it only takes a brief journey through the Bronx, the race goes through the 5 boroughs.
The number of competitors in this race grew to over 50k, and there were actually people 50.513 to finish last year's race. Needless to say, the number of spectators grew to millions live, and millions more watch the race on television. Because of its location, the New York Marathon is very famous. Many celebrities have rushed for charities in the race, and there have been several films Feature It. in 2015, the Grand Marshall for the race will be the well-known Brooklyn director Spike Lee.
