How to install a VPN connection on Ubuntu! -

In this article, we show you how to configure a VPN connection on Ubuntu using PPTP, OpenVPN or L2TP using Network Manager.

Configuring a VPN connection on Ubuntu is quick and easy!

Once you have selected your preferred VPN protocol (PPTP, OpenVPN and L2TP), please follow the setup instructions as game below.

How a VPN connection using PPTP on Ubuntu

1. First, you need to configure your VPN as shown in the screenshot below.

2. Next, add a new connection.

  1. 3. Enter your credentials and IP address of the server.

Enter one of the server IP addresses connecting to VPN Control Panel and clicking on "Software & Help." Then click "View" next to "manually VPN set-up - no software .." Copy and paste the IP address of the server you want to connect to

4. If desired, you can customize it (Domain Name System) DNS. In this example, we use Google public DNS.

5. Uncheck all except MPPE

How to configure a VPN connection on Ubuntu using OpenVPN

-. How to install OpenVPN Plugin for Network Manager

  1. 1. Find the Terminal option on the left sidebar
  2. 2. type: sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-gnome and press Enter
  3. 3. Type your password and press Enter
  4. 4. Type "Y" and press Enter
  5. Terminal 5. Close

this is what your terminal should look like:

How to configure VPN

once you have installed the plugin for OpenVPN Network Manager, you will need download files vpn.config.zip . You will also need download linux.zip

Go to "Home" and create a new folder, eg "HMA VPN." The previously uploaded files will be in your "Downloads" folder. You will need to extract the two zip files in your new folder.

Next go to Network Manager, which you will see in the upper right corner of your desktop. Click "VPN Connections", then "Configure VPN."

shot0011.png When prompted to select a connection type, scroll down and click on "a recorded VPN configuration Import" and click "Create."

Locate the new folder you created earlier Click TCP, and select a server you want to connect, for example, Canada.Ontario.Toronto_LOC1S3.ovpn

- HMA Enter your user name and password

now you'll need to insert! the appropriate certificates in the fields by clicking on the orange folder on the right side of each field. you must have downloaded and extracted from the archives. If you do not have it, download the keys and certificates from links below:

http://hmastuff.com/hmauser.certonly.txt

once you have them installed, you can proceed to add in the appropriate fields:

  • - in the "user certificate" field, insert hmauser.certonly.txt
  • - in the "CA certificate" field, insert ca.crt.txt
  • - And finally, in the "private key" field, insert hmauser.key.txt
  • - Click "Save"

Connect to VPN

now, go to the network manager, which is located in the upper right corner of your desktop.

Click VPN Connections and click the VPN server you set up earlier. In this example, it is Canada.Ontario.Toronto_LOC1S3.ovpn.

You'll see a notification that you have established a successful VPN connection.

now you can check your new location !

If you have problems connecting, type the following command in your terminal, and email the log to us:

cat / var / log / syslog | grep VPN

How a VPN connection on Ubuntu using LT2P

1. Add repository and install plugin for L2TP network manager following these instructions:

  • - Type of command: sudo -s
  • - and enter your password password Ubuntu
  • - Add repository required with the following command: PPP apt-add-repository: Seriy-pr / network-manager-l2tp
  • - Reload apt-get with the command apt-get update
  • - Install L2TP plugin for network Manager: apt-get install in manager-l2tp-gnome network
  1. 2. next, select "No" to the X.509 certificate and click "OK" in the next window.
  1. 3. Disable xl2tpd service at boot by typing the following commands:
  • xl2tpd stop Service
  • update-rc.d xl2tpd disable

now, we need to create a connection. Please follow the steps below:

  1. 4. Go to the Network Manager> VPN Connections> Configure VPN
  1. 5. Select "Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol" drop-down menu, then click the "Create" button.
  1. 6. Click the "Add" button and enter the following information in the "VPN" tab:
  • - connection name: Type in anything you want, such as the name of the server you are connecting to, for example, HMA
  • - Gateway: Enter the IP address or host name of the VPN server you want to connect from VPN Control Panel . You can find it by clicking Next, click on "View" next to -
  • - ". Software & Help" Username "Manually set-up No software VPN." Enter your HMA! username
  • - Password: Enter your L2TP password. This can be found by logging on VPN control panel and clicking Next, click on "View" next to "Software & Help." "Manually set-up VPN. - No software"

When finished, please, check your VPN settings and click "Save."

  1. 7. Click the "L2TP IPSec Options" button and
  • - Check the "Enable L2TP tunnel IPSec to host"
  • - in the "group Name" enter "HMA" and ...
  • - In the "pre-shared key" input field. " HideMyAss "Make sure you enter the uppercase and lowercase letters as you see them here. - Since they are sensitive

When finished, click [1945005"OK"]

  1. 8. Now open the "PPP Settings" tab and select the following options:
  • - Under "Authentication", select only the "MSCHAP" and "MSCHAPv2" options Leave the rest unchecked .
  • - Check the "Use Point to Point encryption (MPPE)"
  • - for "Security", select "128-bit (the safer) "from the dropdown menu
  • - Uncheck all other options as shown in the screenshot below

Save the settings by clicking

  1. 9 .Open the "General" tab and "OK" .:
  • - Check the "All users can connect to this network"
  • - Click "Save"

You can now close the network Connections window.

  1. Try to connect and check your IP address.
