Now, let us take a look more closely at two ways to select servers in the IPVanissh Mac OS X app: per card per city. These are represented in the pictures below.

The first image shows the map screen. The map screen shows the IPVanish servers as circles with numbers in them. These figures represent the number of servers in this area. The map screen allows you to zoom in to increase the detail and locate the servers to make it easier to select and connect to them. Clicking on a circle with one person in it will choose this server to connect to. Once you have selected a server, simply switch the login button as we did above to complete the connection. Alternatively, you can double-click on the location and the connection to the chosen server. You can also connect to a server location by double-clicking one of the green or yellow dots on the map. Once the connection has been established the dashboard will show us the details.

The second way that you can connect to a server in the network IPVanish using the Mac application is to use the menu option city. This screen is shown in the picture to the right above. This screen will show you a list of VPN servers in the network IPVanish city. You can order the list by city, country, continent, servers, and played (favorite) by clicking on the title of the corresponding column. By clicking on the country and the city will order the list in alphabetical order: first by country and city. This will make it easier to find the server you want to connect. By default, the application will connect to sever it believes will provide the best performance. However, if you double-click the number in the column of the server, it will show you a list of servers that place and allow you to choose your own. Also, if you connect to a destination regularly, you can click on a star by the location in the list which will turn solid green star and favorite location. You can then order the bookmarks list so that the locations you use regularly is always top of the list. This makes it even easier to connect to servers that you use regularly.

The final menu option that we will consider in detail is parameters. The settings menu has two tabs: General and connection. These are shown in the image below.

The first image shows the General Settings configuration tab. It mainly controls the behavior of startup and appearance applications. It is divided into five sections as follows:

image on the screens above right of the Connection Settings tab. This screen allows you to control some of the most advanced connection features of the Mac IPVanish application. This screen is divided into two sections :. One for the control connection and one for configuring DNS

The connection section controls some of the applications IPVanish most advanced features such as the circuit breaker. It is organized as follows:

  • connection protocol - The default for the best overall VPN protocol OpenVPN (UDP) for most uses, but can be changed to
    • OpenVPN (TCP) -. This often works if OpenVPN (UDP) does but perhaps not slower
    • port to the OpenVPN protocol can also be modified
      • Port 443 - This is the default client port the default port used for HTTPS traffic
      • Port 1194 - .. This is the port normally used for traffic OpenVPN
    • L2TP - This provides another way to connect and always maintain a level of security comparable to OpenVPN, but will generally be slower
    • PPTP -. only use it for low security applications such as video streaming because it has known security vulnerabilities
  • automatically reconnect - Enabling .. this will help to always keep your VPN connection up
  • Internet connection "to kill switch" - enabling this will ensure that if your connection is lost, all Internet traffic stop. This can help protect your privacy while using the Service IPVanish keeping secret your real IP address if the connection drops
  • Change the IP address periodically -. Enabling this will allow you to change your IP address periodically.
    • This allows you to set the time interval in minutes with a minimum interval of 45 minutes and defaults to 60 minutes.
    • This temporarily interrupts your connection while a new address is assigned.
    • If the circuit breaker has been set it will also make your Internet unavailable for a new IP address is obtained.
    • Taking advantage of this feature will help make you even more anonymous by using the IPVanish service.

DNS section is fairly simple. It allows you to reset your DNS configuration of the Mac application. By default, the application uses the DNS servers IPVanish when you are connected to their network, but you can change this to other DNS servers such as Google if you want. It allows you to enter the primary and secondary IP addresses for your chosen DNS servers and returns to zero from the client.

The IPVanish application for Mac OS X has the same look and feel of their Windows client. It allows Mac users to log in and out of their network with just a few mouse clicks either on the map or the list of screens. It has a kill switch as thast found in their Windows client. Indeed, IPVanish is one of the few Mac clients that we know to include this feature. This feature will help you protect your privacy by ensuring that you are always connected to their service while using the Internet. Another unique feature is the ability to periodically change your IP address. IPVanish the Mac OS X default application OpenVPN protocol so you always know your connection is secure when you are connected to one of their VPN servers.
