As Internet and other public networks such as Wi-Fi becomes increasingly unsecured and dangerous due to prying eavesdroppers and hackers, VPN play an important role in safeguarding and securing these networks. If encryption or password strength is not enough, so hackers can easily search on these networks. This can occur because of human negligence and error. The network is also vulnerable if users utilze unsecured machines for tunneling network. This negligence on the part of the user may occur if the personal computer of the remote user used to access files and personal information, lack of adequate security measures such as antivirus, firewall, etc.
- A new technology related to computer networking called "split tunneling" has evolved that allows VPN users to use public networks like the Internet, a LAN / WAN simultaneously using the same network connection. This service is provided through an application called VPN client software. But this tunnel technique has a drawback in the form that users can evade security at the gateway, which is implemented within the infrastructure of a company. There is security at the gateway and not a client PC that controls the content or Web filtering. DNS hijacking is implemented by Internet service providers using split tunneling to break the name of resolving the private address. Datagrams out of the default gateway of the local network in case of plain split tunnel. The tunnel is only used by datagrams that are destined to go to IP networks that exist behind VPN terminator. In newer versions of the technology, many VPN tunnel disadvantages have been declined. However, the main concern is safety. Security issues are mainly associated with users who fail to take adequate safety measures and access. VPNs are mainly struggling with this problem.
