Windows installation guide StrongVPN -
You can download the Windows StrongVPN software from their website configuration page by selecting "Setup" from the main menu of the site. Then click the "StrongVPN for Windows" button. This will bring up a dialog that allows you to record the Windows client installation file on your computer. The client requires Windows XP or higher. The Client Configuration page also has manual configuration guide to configure Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 to use their service with OpenVPN, IPSec, SSTP, PPTP and L2TP.
Once the client is downloaded to your computer, right-click the file and choose "Run as administrator". The configuration will first have you select your language and accept the TOS StrongVPN. You need to choose a destination location, start menu folder, and check to create a desktop icon. This will result in an installation window like the one below left. By clicking the "Install" button will start the installation, which will end by creating a desktop icon like the one shown on the right. After it finished, you will be prompted to install the TAP driver. Once the TAP driver is installed, you will see a screen like the one below right. Click the "Finish" button to start the StrongVPN customer first.
The first time you open the client, you will see a verification page and connection similar to that shown below left. There are options to create an account or reset your password if you forget it. There you have the information in your welcome email, enter your "Email" and "Password" of it. They were seized and redacted in the image on the right below.
Once you enter your credentials, select the "Save login" so that the customer will remember your login information and you do not have to retype . Then click on the "Login" button. This will bring the client connection main screen as shown below left. This screen displays the following:
- Your IP address we have redacted
- VPN Status :. Disconnected followed by red StrongVPN logo
- The client logo StrongVPN

- log out -. This disconnect from the customer and reduce the tray. it will not close the client. If you log out, you will need to re-enter "email" and "password" when you log in to another location. This could be useful if you are using a shared computer
- Exit -. This will close the StrongVPN Windows client
- Your connected location -. in this case, Oslo, Norway
- Your currently selected position to connect to what has been selected in the list as we have shown exploded on the right in the picture below [

- OpenVPN TCP - This is the Transport Control Protocol OpenVPN and includes error detection and correction lost packets and packet order. Because of this, it can be a bit slower, but it can also be more reliable in rural areas or over long distances
- OpenVPN UDP -. This is the User Datagram Protocol OpenVPN and does not include the overhead of TCP and is therefore faster and is the default client StrongVPN

By default, you connect to the fastest server in your chosen city from your current location. Now let us take a look at how you change your place in the StrongVPN client. To change location, you must first disconnect from the network. The image below shows the system tray messages that indicate that you are connected to the first LA server then disconnected. For those who want more control over your VPN connection, StrongVPN a "Change Location" menu item that allows you to change your protocol and your location. When you click the "Change Location" menu item, you will see a screen like the one below
This screen has two options on it :. "By country" and "Per Server". These two selections are shown in the image below. The first shows the selection by country and by the second server.

The second picture above shows a sample of the selection by the server. First, you must select a country and a city from their respective drop-down lists. Then choose a protocol type. PPTP is selected in this example. You can then choose to test a particular server or all servers by either clicking on the "Test of the selected server" or the button "All Test". You can then sort the results by ping time (ms) and flow ( KB / s). Consider the above example, you can select the second server that has a time slightly higher ping, but much better than the rate of other servers. once you highlight your server choice click the "Next" button to display the operation screen.

Click the "Switch" button on this screen to start the server change and process change to your chosen server. Once the account server change process is complete, you will see a message telling you that the server change was successful, then the client connection main screen will as shown below. The server automatically selected by using the country selection is now shown that the server log when you click "Connect." By default, the client connects using SSTP, but you can change it for PPTP or L2TP if you want using the drop down list as shown below. Once you've settled on the protocol you want to use and click the "Connect" button to complete your connection to the new server.
Now let us take a look at the Advanced menu item. By clicking on "Advanced" to open the Options menu has five tabs as shown below. The five tabs are :.
- Information - It contains into account, the system and session information for the current session
- Options - This has all the connection options for the customer
- log -. This is a log of the stages of the connection procedure and may be useful to help diagnose connection problems. A copy of it should be included in the notes you create for connection problems to help diagnose StrongVPN staff and solve your problem quickly
- Port List -. This is a list of all ports that customers can use with the ability to add your own. Having access to multiple ports the VPN Service to bypass blocked or restricted ports and always transfer all of its traffic.

- OpenVPN Proxy - .. This is mainly used for users in China and Iran, but could also deliver faster speeds depending other parameters OpenVPN streaming
- PPTP / L2TP / SSTP - This will allow you to use these other protocols to connect to the network using the StrongVPN client.
- PPTP -. Not as safe as OpenVPN but can be faster and maybe a good choice for streaming media
- L2TP - This provides a good alternative choice to OpenVPN if SSTP will not work but can be slower due to the double encapsulation
- SSTP -. A Microsoft proprietary protocol designed primarily for Windows. It is fast, secure and reliable. This is the default client protocol if your preference is PPTP / L2TP / SSTP.
- OpenVPN (Global) - Contains global settings of OpenVPN. We recommend not to change Max MSS, Timeout, compression, or the Log verbosity settings unless asked by StrongVPN technical support staff.
- Allow direct traffic during reconnection -
- If this option is checked, it will allow the normal Internet traffic if the VPN connection drops. This may be convenient, but remember this will expose your real IP address to the Internet.
- Disabling it will kill the normal Internet traffic if the OpenVPN connection drops. This is the implementation of a StrongVPN kill Internet switch to the OpenVPN protocol.
- OpenVPN (account-specific) - It contains the OpenVPN preferences for your specific account number. We recommend that you not change your account number, Fragment, Mssfix, or MTU unless otherwise StrongVPN by technical support staff. These further parameters have to do with packet fragmentation that can slow the VPN connection.
- Scramble - The Interference option adds an additional layer of complexity to the VPN connection between the client OpenVPN and the OpenVPN server, which makes it more likely for VPN pass through the unhindered network. - AES-256 CBC -. it uses AES-256 CBC with a 256-bit key to provide greater security, but at the expense of speed
- PPTP / L2TP / SSTP (global) - this contains the global settings for this preference protocol.
