Iran access to HideMyAss! VPN: Business As Usual -

With Iran to block access to virtual private networks (VPN) ports in a political movement aimed at ending their citizens access to banned sites, including Facebook to Skype users in the country may be worried about their access to external Internet content. Although all VPN ports were blocked at the weekend, users of our free proxy are not affected.

The latter attempted Internet restriction is likely to be largely futile. The block on VPN was actually confirmed by a local protester on Facebook - a site banned in Iran. The Chinese government has also spent years and millions of dollars on technology to block VPN, and yet they still get through regardless. Providing proxy technology, tools and software has so far managed to evade all attempts at censorship.

Sites currently blocked by the censorship of the Iranian government include Facebook, Skype and YouTube. Previously, 1,0 Iranians use our free proxy service every week, even if it is officially "blocked" by the Iranian government. We will continue to support Iran's users as much as possible in order to promote openness and freedom of global expression provided by the Internet.
