Iranian social media block temporarily lifted by mistake
The access to Facebook and Twitter was temporarily reinstated on Monday in Iran because of a technical problem. Direct access to these sites has been denied since 09 after they were used to organize demonstrations. The Iranians have since been forced to use a proxy or other software to bypass the firewall. Some citizens were hopeful that the sudden access means that the firewall was turned off for good, but the government issued a statement shortly afterwards citing "technical problems" as the reason for the block failure.
