The Special Olympics is a celebration of talent, perseverance and achievements of people who are mentally challenged and is the largest organization sports to help. More than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries participate in 26 Olympic-style events. This year, the 2015 World Summer Special Olympics take place from July 25th to August 2nd and the games will be held in Los Angeles, California. the special Olympics was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968 as a means of advancing the objectives of intellectual disability. In 1962, she was concerned about children with intellectual disabilities have nowhere to play. Because of this concern, she started a day camp at his home called Camp Shriver. Using the camp as an example, Ms. Shriver has used its status as part of the Kennedy family to promote the idea of physical activity. Like the regular Olympics, the games are held every two years, alternating between summer and winter games. The last Summer Games were held in Greece in 2011 and the Winter Games were held in South Korea in 2013. The Special Olympics is recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
Every time the games have been played, the number of athletes and countries represented increased. The number of competitors has increased from 00 in 2011-7000 expected in 2015, with the anticipation that the number will go up by another 1,000 by the 2019 games.
