ExpressVPN Mac Setup Guide -

Those whose operating system of choice is Mac OS X has been left out by technical staff at ExpressVPN. They created a customer to make it easy to connect to VPN servers in their network as well. As with the Windows client, you must first register for the service and then log on to your account page on their website to download the installation file ExpressVPN Mac. You want to go to your account subscription tab and click the green "set up ExpressVPN" button. This will take you to the page of licenses where you can download the installation file for the client last for Mac OS X 10.9 and above (Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan).

Then you want to click on the green "Download Now" to download the installation file for the Mac client on your computer. Before doing so, select the activation code in the yellow box and use Command + C to copy it so you can paste it to the customer in time to enable licensing for your account. You can use the registration code on multiple computers. Make sure you have the code handy because you'll need to enter it the first time you launch the Mac client on each device.

Once the installation file is on your computer, you'll need to run it to install the Mac client. This will install an icon to launch the application on your Launchpad ExpressVPN like in the picture on the left below. When you start the Mac client for the first time, you have to activate pasting the activation code we previously copied. The second image below shows the activation screen. Check the above box "ExpressVPN launch at startup" and press Command + V to paste in the code. Once the code has been pasted, click the gray button ok to activate the client. The last screen shows that we were able to activate the software license and can now start using the application.

By pressing the "start using the application" button to bring up a screen like the one on the left below. This is Offline state for the client. It is easily recognizable by the big lock red unlocked. It also shows the last position we have connected to what makes it easy to reconnect it. By pressing the button "Connect" to connect USA - New York in our case. The screen connected in the middle of the image shows this connection. In addition to displaying "connected", there is a picture of a green lock in its locked state. This indicates that our connection is now secure and that we are connected to a VPN server in New York. By pressing the red "disconnect" closes our connection. The last image shows the screen selector location which can be accessed by clicking on the "select a different location" of the screen to the left below. Alternatively, you can click the ellipsis "..." at the top right of one of the first two screens and select the location selector in the list the list that appears.

The switch location screen shown at right above includes four menu items for creating and controlling the locations you can choose:

  • Favorites or "star" - This shows two different lists.
    • Last Logged -. Here is a list of the three most recent connections ordered from newest to oldest
    • Favorites - This is a list of your favorite connections in alphabetical order.
      • Favorites are selected by clicking the gray star to the right of the location on a menu list. (The star turns yellow indicating it is a favorite spot)
      • Bookmarks can be selected either nationally or city. Favouring a city will always connect to this city all countries sign the best location of the server in the country at present.
      • Bookmarks can be deselected by clicking on the yellow star to the location you want to remove
  • Recommended - .. Listing top choice ExpressVPN for you
  • by region - tihs displays regional lists you can choose to include the Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East and India, and Asia-Pacific
  • by Name -. This shows a list of all locations in alphabetical order.

individual countries or regions can be expanded or contracted by clicking on the triangular shapes to the left of them. A complete list can be extracted / compacted by clicking the expansion / contract icon (downward triangle with horizontal lines) at the top right of the screen selector location .

as capturing screen below shows the drop down list obtained by clicking on the ellipsis has other options available in addition to the location selector. The second is the speed test. The screen test speed is shown right below. This screen will help you determine the fastest connection for your current objective. It measures a couple of different variables:

  • Latency - The amount of time it takes for data to travel from your computer to the server location VPN (in milliseconds).
    • Low latency is the best and in general, a more distant location of the server, the higher the latency
  • Download speed -. A measure of data transferred per second (kb / s)
    • Higher download speed is better.

using these measures and "black boxes" calculations ExpressVPN determines a speed rating , which is a number that represents the speed your connection to this place will be right now. higher speed ratings represent faster connections. The table can be sorted by any column header by clicking it. For example, clicking on the location column header to order alphabetically. This is useful to easily find the fastest server in a given country. You can run a speed test and record the results for future comparisons. By clicking on the "?" At the bottom of the test will give you advice on how to find the quickest to break your goal. The Help option will allow you to send a support ticket or provide a link to the ExpressVPN support page. The diagnostic option will allow you to view or record the connection commands to help troubleshoot connection problems.

The last option we want to consider is the preferences that opens preferences [1945004écran] with three tabs: General, protocols, and advanced. The General tab is shown in the picture below left. This will let you choose to auto-launch customer ExpressVPN start and connect to the last position when the client is started. You can also buy new subscriptions and switch between them by entering a different activation code (which is equivalent to changing the user). Finally, you can refer friends to win a free month of ExpressVPN.

The second Preferences screen tab is the tab and protocols as shown in the image above. The protocols that you can choose from the following:

  • Select the protocol automatically - This will let ExpressVPN select the best protocol for your connection
    • This is usually be the (UDP) protocol OpenVPN
  • UDP-OpenVPN - .. This provides the best speed and safety, but can not always work
  • TCP-OpenVPN -. This work often if OpenVPN (UDP) does not, but it is slower
  • L2TP IPsec - another option that uses a pre-shared key.
  • PPTP -. The least secure of all protocols and only good for streaming

other OpenVPN protocols that can have a subset of network locations to connect to. Choose the protocol is automatically the default, which is the best option for most users and should not be changed unless you have a connection problem.

The last tab of the Preferences screen is the advanced tab is shown below and now has only one option. This option is if you want to share data and information on the anonymous speed tests connections to help them make faster network more reliable.

The ExpressVPN client for Mac OS X has the same look and fell of their Windows client. It allows Mac users to log in and out of their network with just a few mouse clicks. He did not have a kill switch as the Windows client, or more advanced options. However, as the Windows client, it does make it easy for Mac users to choose a VPN server, you connect, disconnect, and reconnect with a new one. It helps ensure your privacy by securing your connection while using the internet.
