Once you have a Support Staff will send you a welcome email with a link to the licensing and e-mail address and password that you'll need to connect to your account. This is where you can manage all your account settings, including disabling automatic renewal. Pressing the button in place ExpressVPN take you to the download page where you can find the activation code that you will need to activate their Windows application on your machine. The image below shows where to find it. It is recommended that you copy it to the clipboard for later. You can do this by highlighting the code and pressing Ctrl + C . Do not worry that you are not limited to the number of computers you can install the client on.

By clicking on the green download now button to download the installation configuration file on your computer. Once the file is on your machine, you must run it as an administrator so that it can install and configure the ExpressVPN Windows client on your computer. The image below shows the first and last screen in the process. There are a number of steps in the process, but they are explicit. Just keep hitting next and install appropriate to accept the defaults and you should not have any problems with the installation. Towards the end, there will be a check box to enable ExpressVPN collect the generic use of information to improve their service. This is checked by default. You can also view and change this setting in the customer later.

Once installation is complete, you will see an icon ExpressVPN as that shown on the left below added to your desktop. Clicking this starts the Windows application. The first time you start you have to stick their client in the activation code that we copied to the clipboard earlier as shown in the image at right.

You can choose to start the client at startup. It is selected by default, but can be changed later. Once you've copied the code, click on the OK button will complete the activation of the client software. Now that the client has been activated, you will be directed to the main login screen as shown in the screenshot on the left below. From there, you can accept the recommended server and click the login green button to start the login process or you can choose another server to connect by clicking the link select another location.

This will open the window of the location selector. Optionally, you can select the selection "..." button and select the location selector in the resulting drop-down list to access this window. This screen will be high with the tab for the last selected. There are four tabs in the slot selector window. One displayed above shows the first choice of you ExpressVPN server to connect to. The other options are the "star" or a favorite list, the regional list and the list of names. These are shown from left to right in the image below.

The first picture above shows the connection on the Favorites tab. This tab displays a list of the three most recent connections with the latest connection first shows. This is followed by a list of favorite destinations in alphabetical order. Favorites are selected or deselected by clicking the star to the right of a site. Favorites can be selected as country (Netherlands) or more locally specific locations within a country (Netherlands - Amsterdam). If you select a favorite country, the application will try to sign the best performance server in that country based on your current location.

The second picture above shows the connection controlled region with the regions being the Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East and India, and Asia Pacific. The latest list shows all the locations in alphabetical order. If a country has more than one location in it, his list can be expanded or by clicking on the triangle next to it. Alternatively, the list can be expanded or contracted by clicking the / development contract icon in the upper right part of the recommendation, or the regional list of place names.

Returning to the menu that we accessed by clicking the selection button "..." button on the login window and shown on the right for reference. Selection using this list will provide the opportunity to submit a support ticket or visit the website support area ExpressVPN. diagnostics selection will allow you to view or record the VPN commands for troubleshooting connection problems. The last option, leave ExpressVPN close the Windows client.

The other two menu options, tests, and speed options will be discussed in more detail below. The first is the speed test is shown in the image below. To test speed take about five minutes to run, but worth it. We recommend that you run the test periodically. You can save your results to compare with future tracks.

The speed test measure two parameters to try to help you choose the best VPN server perform in their network to your goal. These measures are:

  • Latency - The amount of time it takes for data to travel from your computer to the location of the VPN server ( in milliseconds).
    • Low latency is the best.
    • Generally, the more distant location of the server, the higher the latency.
  • Download speed - A measure of data transferred per second (kb / s)
    • Higher download speed is better

The speed index combines these. metrics (latency and download speed) in a quantifiable number that represents the overall performance you can expect when you connect to a server about your current location. Note that table can be controlled by a column by selecting the column header. For example, if you are outside the US and want to connect to a server in the United States, click the column of the site towards the order of the list alphabetically, then scroll up 'to the US location that has the highest speed rating.

generally a higher place of the speed index should provide you the fastest connection to their VPN to your current goal. For general surfing, you'll want to try a higher index locations to see which will give you the best performance. This is a test of measurements between your actual location and a VPN server on their network so you can not be connected to their network when running this test. "?" By clicking on the bottom of the test may offer advice to help you find the best performing server to your goal

The last menu that we want to examine is the options menu which has three tabs .: generally, protocols, and advanced. The first two are shown in the image below. The left one shows the general options tab. Its options include the following sections:

  • Start (toggle box)
    • Customer ExpressVPN Launch at Windows startup.
      • You must set if you have the network lock (interlock) set and you want to make sure that you are always connected to the service while using Windows.
    • Log on to the last position used during launch.
      • This is useful if you always connect to a particular place for general surfing
  • locking network - . ExpressVPN is the implementation of a VPN kill switch.
    • The default is enabled
    • Well connected - .. It prevents Internet traffic to flow outside the VPN tunnel
    • When disconnected - It prevents your computer from accessing the Internet.
    • once you reconnect -. It restores Internet traffic automatically
    • network lock remains active, unless you are disconnected from the service (not actively seeking to reconnect), select cancel when connecting to a location, or select Disconnect to stop the current connection.

You can also enter a new activation code to change the subscriptions for new users, buying a new subscription, and refer friends to get ExpressVPN months of service for free in the General options tab

.

the Protocols tab is shown in the picture to the right above. By default it is set to choose the protocol that automatically attempts to connect using OpenVPN protocol (UDP) which is fine for most purposes. You can also force OpenVPN (UDP) connections. This for some reason you can not connect using the default setting or you want to ensure that no packets are lost, you can choose to use OpenVPN (TCP). Be aware that this check is done at the cost of a slower connection. You can also connect using L2TP / IPSec with a pre-shared key and PPTP is less secure and only useful for screening purposes such as streaming. Finally, you can use to make your SSTP connection. Be aware that the use of any connection other than OpenVPN can limit the number of locations on the ExpressVPN network you can connect.

The Advanced tab (shown below) only a few available settings. The first option ensures that there are no leaks DNS when using their service is enabled by default. I suggest you leave this checked parameter. The second provides anonymous data ExpressVPN staff to help them improve the performance of their VPN.

Now that we have examined all customer screens ExpressVPN Windows and their parameters, let's look at how easy it is to connect to their service. Recall that there are two different ways you can connect to a server on their network. You can click on the login link on the screen "not connected" to connect to the location he showed (United States - the customer will choose the high performance server in the USA for you) or choose a select another location. You can also double-click a location to establish a connection to it. In the second screenshot below we double click on the United States -. Location Atlanta

The result is the series of screens shown in the image below showing the connection process. The first image shows the unconnected state. The second image shows the progress of the connection with a green line at the top of the picture just below "connection ...", and the location, we connect to, and a gray button to cancel the connection. Note that in both cases, the lock is unlocked and red. Once the connection has been established (last picture below), "connected" is now displayed at the top, the lock is now locked and green, the connection location is displayed, and a disconnection red button is present . By clicking on the logout button to return us to a screen unrelated USA - Atlanta now shown it as our most recent connection. USA -Atlanta also now be displayed at the top of our list of the most recent connections. Recalls that the selection of the cancel button at login or logout button in the images below will cause the circuit breaker to be inactive.

As you can see, the ExpressVPN staff designed an easy to use Windows client to connect to servers on their VPN. They added some nice features such as DNS leakage protection and a switch to kill but have made it easy for anyone to use, regardless of technical expertise. Connecting to a server is as simple as double-clicking a location. They missed the customer for better encryption protocol, OpenVPN (UDP) to ensure that you are always safe when connected to their service.
