Alert the public about the risks of unsecured public Wi-Fi use is something we hide in my ass! are really concerned, so we had a recent experience to demonstrate how easy it is to hack a Wi-Fi hotspot, and what better way than putting the challenge to a 7 year old?
We put the challenge IT-savvy student of primary school Betsy Davies Dulwich in south London, who managed to hack a public Wi- Fi hotspot after searching and watched an online video tutorial that explains how to hack a network. It took 7 years Betsy just 10 minutes and 54 seconds to hack a Wi-Fi hotspot. She then established a Rogue access point that is often used by cybercriminals to launch a "man in the middle" attack to him trafficking "sniff".
Stay safe when using public Wi-Fi hotspots
The safest way to protect your data from being hacked when using Wi-Fi hotspot is to use a virtual private network (VPN). A VPN encrypts all data you send over the Internet, send via private VPN tunnel, which means that if there is someone waiting to steal your information, all they will see is a lot of gibberish. When you use a VPN, you are given a new Private IP (Internet Protocol) address and your data is encrypted, so when you use the Wi-Fi, each task you perform appears as if it comes from the VPN.
