Privacy five predictions for 2015 -

Last week, we examined forecasts for 2014. as the new year approaches, it is appropriate to examine trends and see what we can do on the big picture for the coming year

predictions: . Big Tech will begin deployment of a private life discharge for business reasons, bank account confiscations held stimulate bitcoin, VPN will continue to see absorption, people in general will still not understand dystopia that is already there and at least a grounding device with strong privacy will launch.

Prediction 1 :. Tech major companies will begin to roll out a discharge of privacy for business reasons We see the effects of Snowden Shock 18 months ago, but the discussions began to take concrete form on how to actually set situation. It is clear that the strong crypto like PGP, TOR and RedPhone / Signal is too difficult to use for the general public, and more importantly, the convenience outweighs privacy every time.

But privacy is a herd immunity. If communication of everyone is encrypted, making it impossible for an adversary to distinguish encrypted traffic flow in general, and all code-breaking direct resources to that particular traffic. Therefore, it has a lot of intrinsic value to encrypt traffic, even banal and insensitive. However, this does not occur on the scale until it is easier to quantify, that does not encrypt.

Big Tech and the main players have understood and begin to act accordingly. I predict that, during 2015, we will see technology deployments that make it not only easy encryption, but binding in practice. Not because Big Tech is necessarily anti-government or private politically pro-life, but because it is in their commercial interest to keep private the private correspondence - to deliver what they claim they offer

Prediction .: 2 savings Bank confiscations occur. This is privacy at large, that financial privacy is one of the seven intimacies, but getting people to become more protective of that. Mid-2014, the government of Cyprus fled confiscating bank savings. Greece is now fast approaching a similar situation, and the simple fact that people just assured the government that this shows that they are already thinking about it as a real possibility. It will happen in at least one location in 2015, perhaps several. This, in turn, will fuel bitcoin absorption

Prediction 3: .. VPNs continue to see absorption Whether to get anonymous, to bypass the ISP bad behavior, or just geocoding bypass stupid restrictions, VPN will continue to see absorption. This can be somewhat slowed by the Datas that the NSA claims to be able to break the VPN. However, VPNs are not so obscure your traffic on the Government - they were. Your VPN traffic comes clear to the other end of the VPN tunnel after all. Stating that the NSA can "break VPN" VPN misses the key point they provide anonymity as they change your IP address to something completely untrackable, and they provide opacity to ISP level, hide your activities from your first step service provider (which is less friendly in many parts of the world).

(VPN business are another matter, but what happens in industrial espionage, the NSA also love)

Prediction 4: .. people in general will continue to understand or care Except for a very small crowd technically savvy, most people are completely unaware of the fact that we effectively have a thought police. There is a total, total and complete disconnect between the expectations of privacy are, and what privacy they have. Various government agencies are more or less able to track your research and real time readings - which is the closest we ever in mind reading. Not only the mind reading, but by someone who will knock your door down at dawn, if your thoughts are considered threatening. It is well beyond the Big Brother dystopia 1950s, and most people still will not worry about it

Prediction 5 :. At least one major hardware device for the masses will launch in privacy as a main selling point. there are several in the works, so this may seem like a pretty safe bet, but it is still a very interesting development in juxtaposition with predictions # 1 and # 4.

in general, things can be expected to get a little better in 2015. Not good, but at least less bad.

Privacy remains your own responsibility.
