The Shellshock bug that could be worse than heartbleed. "Virus" The heartbleed, a cryptographic weakness that exposed a vulnerability in websites spread panic across the Internet earlier this year, got a new cousin, more powerful. Now, experts warn a new threat to online users, this time it goes by the name or Shellshock Bash. Standing for Bourne Again Shell, it is basically a way for programmers to control the software by typing in the text, which is usually just for programmers and does not appear anywhere else. The Shellshock could essentially be used for hackers to remotely control the computers of people. Of course, this would be bad news for any Internet user with their machine to thank you for the attacks.

It is this line of attack that causes the most concern. Hackers could use the exploit on web servers and then all hosted sites, meaning the spread could be achieved so far. What this essentially means for casual Internet users of these attacks can affect you if you happen to use a website that is hosted by a Web server that contains this feat. hackers can not only control your computer, and access to sensitive information, you can enter websites. Note that Mac OSX and Linux users are vulnerable as well.

It is only in the early stages of this type of attack, there were no cases of attacks because of Bash / Shellshock. The only thing you can really do right now is to make sure all your systems are patched up to date, including your web browsers. Further information can be found on the website of SecLists which contains tips and precautions. The Shellshock bug that could be worse than heartbleed hopefully be eradicated before users are endangered.
