StrongVPN Installation Guide Android -

You can download the Android application StrongVPN directly from Google Play or visit their site first. If from the StrongVPN.com, click on "Setup" in the main menu of the site, then click the "StrongVPN for Android" button on the following screen. This will take you to the store Google Play where you can download the application and install it. The Client Configuration page also has manual configuration guide to configure different versions of Android to use their service with L2TP, PPTP and OpenVPN.

The procedure for installing the application on your Android device is shown above. Once you're in the Google Play Store, tap the "Install" button to begin the process. Accept the access message that appears by pressing the "Accept" button and wait. The client is compatible with Android and 6 below. Once the client is downloaded to your device, the normal procedure to open will be tapping the icon StrongVPN application. However, the first time you open it, just press the "Open" button as shown in the first screen of the image below. This will then bring up the client authentication screen that is shown in the middle image.

On the login screen, enter your email address and password you used when you created your account. These can also be found in your welcome email you received from StrongVPN at registration. Press the rocker "Save powers" so that the application will store your information, otherwise you will enter it each time you connect to the network StrongVPN. Once you have correctly followed the steps above and press the "Login" button. You will see the StrongVPN client window like the one shown in the pictures below.

The first screen shows the client in its disconnected state. The client's main screen contains the following elements in this state :.

  • StrongVPN logo - Brand Company
  • Server name and number - Display the server name and server number
  • icon option settings -. These are the horizontal lines in a circle icon to the right of the server name. Tapping this will display the main screen settings which will then show screens for the individual settings. We will examine these later in this section
  • The connection switch - .. This is currently dark indicating that it is turned off
  • Location - the location currently selected connection (Atlanta, USA), followed by a red light
  • connection status -. That says "Disconnected" in red to warn you that your Internet is not secure.
  • Social Media Links -. Tapping these icons to connect to Facebook and Twitter page to StrongVPN respectively
  • The Get Support Link - Tapping this will load the StrongVPN support page on their website. This page has their support and billing FAQ, links to their VPN configuration guides, and you can also complete and submit a support ticket from here
  • Titles - . Titles of recent StrongVPN blogs.

by tapping the switch will start the process of connecting to the server Atlanta. This is shown in the middle image below where the switch now has a yellow tint warning and the status is displayed as "Connection" in yellow. Meanwhile, you will see messages at the top of your Android device called authentication, the VPN server configuration, a dark logo StrongVPN, and others. Also note, the icon of optional parameters does not appear on this screen.

The last screen in the above image shows the customer when connected to the VPN server Atlanta. The optional parameters icon is back. The light next to the site is now green, the switch has a green tint, and status now says "Protected" in green. StrongVPN as the logo in the messaging menu is shaded blue with the word "Connected" by it. Connected is then replaced with a key indicating that we are safe. By coding the components of the color screen, StrongVPN made it easy to see the connection status with just a glance.

Each time you log in StrongVPN network after logging in, you will see a warning message like the one depicted in the second image below. What happened before receiving the login screen in the image above. It's normal. Android is simply to let you know that you are connected to a VPN service and make sure that you trust the source. To continue, you must trust StrongVPN and press "OK" as we did in the last image below.

This will then enable you to complete your connection to the Atlanta server as shown in the first screen of the image below. Tapping is the location near the top center of the login screen or the settings icon (horizontal lines with dots in a circle) to show the connection parameters is shown in the second screen below. Tapping on the location of the screen will display a list of places you can connect using OpenVPN.

Scroll the list and typing on New York, the United States will begin the process of switching between servers in Atlanta and New York. This is illustrated in the pictures below. As you can see the application updates the location in the connection settings as indicated in the last two screens below.

Once the location has been updated, press the back button on your device which will return you to the login main screen shown in the first image below. Note that the application automatically attempts to connect to the new server since it was connected to that of Atlanta before starting your trip to New York. The last image below shows you have successfully activated the two servers. Changing servers in this way reduces the time that you are not on the VPN when switching servers. Alternatively, you can log out of your current server, select another city, then connect to the new location.

We examined how to connect and switch servers using the Android app StrongVPN. Let us now disconnect. Disconnect is easy, simply press the switch connection. You will be prompted with a message cancel confirmation as the one shown in the first screen in the image below. Tap "OK" and you will be disconnected from your VPN server in progress.

There you have trouble disconnecting, want to cancel a connection before it ends, or need another way to log out, you can tap and drag down on the StrongVPN shield icon in the running apps mail box at the top of the screen of your device. Once this screen is opened, as shown in the second picture below, press the zone "VPN is activated by StrongVPN" which will bring up the login information screen below right. Tap Disconnect on the screen to complete the process.

The last thing we want to look in the Android application is the settings you can change. You have already learned how to use the location menu to change the VPN servers. The first screen in the image below shows the settings menu so you can see some of the other connection options that you can control. These are as follows :.

  • account - This shows your account information and is primarily for existing accounts
  • Location - As you have already learned, this will allow you to move servers
  • Protocol -. OpenVPN is the only VPN protocol supported by the Android application, but you can change how it is implemented as shown in the second image below.
    • UDP -. This is the User Datagram Protocol OpenVPN and does not include TCP overhead and is therefore faster and is the default Android app StrongVPN
    • TCP - This is the transfer control protocol and is good for high latency connections and those that can not tolerate packet loss. It provides the packet order error control and loss and retransmits packets to correct. This is usually slower due to the extra burden involved in this process. It will not be ideal for streaming
    • Proxy - .. This is primarily used in countries like China and Iran to help with connection problems and censorship, but could be useful for streaming both
  • Scramble - this is the technology that adds another layer of complexity to the VPN connection between the client and the server OpenVPN OpenVPN, which makes it likely for VPN pass through unhindered network. This can help stop the techniques of deep packet inspection used to censorship by countries like China. It can be implemented in five ways as shown in the third screen of the image below.
    • Off - Do not confuse the data
    • Password - .. A string (word) is used to perform an operation on a simple XOR packet payload
    • Xorptrpos - Performs an XOR operation, using the current position in the payload packets for the operation
    • reverse - .. This reverses all packet data
    • Concealment - It uses a mixture of all the above three methods is the safest
  • remote Port -. This is a remote port that is available to the VPN to use if it is. By default, port 8293: a port very underused
  • Battery and connectivity - This is a slider you can adjust between better connectivity and lifetime of the battery as shows the last screen. the image below.

last option you have as a user to the Android application is to set it to automatically reconnects when the phone restarts.

Android application StrongVPN only supports OpenVPN protocol that is ok, because it is probably the best protocol of choice for most users anyway. The app defaults to UDP, but you can change the TCP connections for long latency or more rural areas. It can also be set to a proxy setting. The application has an advanced feature to scramble your data and avoid the thorough inspection of employees packet those who practice Internet censorship. Specifically, it is easy to connect to their VPN from your favorite Android device. Just few taps on the screen you have connected to the location of your chosen VPN server.
