the British Academy of film and Television Arts has announced the winners of its annual pre-Academy Awards show, its 68th edition, the Royal Opera House in London. The winners and losers of the BAFTAs are also followed. This year, there was no clear winner, but Boyhood won top honors as he leaves with the best image. The 12-year history of Richard Linklater a boy growing from six years throughout 18 also won best director and best supporting actress Patricia Arquette. Grand Budapest Hotel Wes Anderson took an incredible five awards, including best original score, makeup and hair, costume design, production design, and best original screenplay.
Best Actor went to Eddie Redmayne for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, which also won the best British film and adaptation. Julianne Moore won best actress for her role in Alice Still. Whiplash, JK Simmons and Miles Teller won three awards, including best editing, best sound and best supporting actor JK Simmons. Birdman Michael Keaton just won a prize for best photography. Best documentary went to Citizenfour Laura Poitras, the efforts of Edward Snowden to expose the level of intelligence that the US government exploited post-911. Mike Leigh missed the prize for his latest film, Mr. Turner, but instead was presented with a much higher price; BAFTA Fellowship, awarded to only a select few in the film industry, including Alfred Hitchcock and Elizabeth Taylor.
With the final stretch before being the biggest night in the film, the Academy Awards, the BAFTAs may be considered to give some advice on what movies could take the biggest prize.
