Alibaba, one of China's largest companies and the owner of the online auction site Taobao, have recently been attacked by hackers in which cyber attack in China exposes 20million users. The attack came from a group of hackers who have since been identified and was caused by a breach of security in cloud computing service of Alibaba.
The hackers obtained a database of over 99million user names and passwords, and used the Alibaba cloud service for cross-reference with Taobao accounts. Out of the 99million, nearly 21 million used the email address and password combination of same, which means that hackers had full access to these accounts. Fortunately pirate activity was observed within two weeks after the initial attack and Alibaba has been able to send messages to all users to change their passwords, as well as police reports.
The pirates have been wrong to purchase items, a practice invented "brushing", to raise the ratings feedback of the seller, and the sale of accounts for fraudulent purposes. Unfortunately China are considerably behind the online safety standards compared to the United States and China face an even higher number of security breaches and hacks lately.
